Q: How long do LEDs last?

A: Most estimates give current LEDs 20 years or so. At around $3 to $5 each, it’s a no-brainer.

Q: Does the light look like my old lights?

A: LEDs have come a long way and look nearly the same as older lights, especially Edison style. We recommend warm white/amber to match the warm glow of old, here is a comparison.

Q: What if my old lights work just fine? Can I just wait?

A: No, ditch them anyway, they cost you money every day. LEDs pay off in 3 months and then print money for 20 years. If I borrowed $100, paid you back in 3 months and then sent you $500 every year for 20 years for a total of $10k you’d be thrilled. That 100X return on investment is the deal LEDs offer.

Q: What about the waste?

A: The best thing for the environment is for you to stop using old bulbs. To dispose of incandescent and halogen you can put them in the trash (not recycling). For fluorescent and CFL, which contain some mercury, you can take them to Lowe’s or Home Depot. More disposal details HERE.

Q: Do I have to switch to LED?

A: Yes, older style bulbs are banned from sale and production in the US starting in 2023. You should get out ahead of the regulation rush by switching today. More details on the law HERE.

Q: How big is the old lightbulb problem ?
